What it does

Independent Wire is an open-source pipeline that reads dozens of news sources in many languages every day and turns them into Topic Packages — structured dossiers that show not only what happened, but how it is being reported:

• the full spectrum of perspectives on a story, side by side
• where sources contradict one another
• what is missing — the regions and voices no source covers
• a bias card that examines the text's own framing
• a transparency trail: why this topic was chosen, what was discarded, which sources were used

Why it is different

Independent Wire belongs to no one. Every part of it — the agent instructions, the source lists, the selection logic — is open and readable under the AGPL-3.0 license. No advertising, no investors, no paywall. Where commercial AI news tools keep their prompts and their licensing deals hidden, Independent Wire shows you exactly how it works — so you can check its agenda, or change it.

What it is, and what it is not

Being honest about the limits is part of the promise. Independent Wire does not do investigative reporting — it cannot knock on a door or meet a source in person. It cannot make AI unbiased; it can only make the bias visible. And it is not a replacement for journalism.

It is something else: a new kind of resource that stands alongside the journalism you already read. A place you go to widen the picture — to see how the same event is told across languages and media systems, to trace every claim back to its source, and to follow, step by step, how the dossier in front of you was assembled. Not a story told to you, but the landscape behind the stories, laid open.

Where your support goes

Independent Wire has no commercial model, by design. But running the pipeline every day costs real money — mainly the AI model calls that read and analyse the sources. Your support covers these running costs and keeps the project independent: funded by the people who find it useful, and beholden to no one else.
